Supporting Youth Transition to Employment, Careers and Independence (12 hours)
This learning option will focus on transition to employment, careers and independence for students with disabilities. Participants will explore the role of an education assistant as a collaborative member of the high school transition team and acquire effective strategies to support meaningful skills development for students transitioning from high school.
Learning Outcomes
- To understand global concepts in transition planning
- To develop a basic understanding of roles and responsibilities of potential transition team members and challenges and opportunities each stakeholder group may face
- To understand the relationship between quality of life and students transitioning from high school
- To develop a range of strategies and instructional techniques to support effective transition planning in schools and community
- To develop a range of strategies and technique to support team building, communication, collaboration and creative problem solving skills within a transition team
Provider/Format
This course can be delivered by district personnel through face to face instruction. Instructors should have experience in special education as well as in teaching adults and providing professional development
