Building Student Independence (12 hours)

This learning option will focus on key strategies for facilitating student independence. Participants will examine the significance of student independence, the role of the education assistant in building student independence, as well as effective practices and strategies that support the development of student independence.

Learning Outcomes

  • To understand what is meant by student independence
  • To realize best practices for supporting student independence
  • To examine how education assistants impact a student’s learning, membership and participation
  • To identify and apply select instructional strategies that support the development of student independence

Provider/Format

This course can be delivered by district personnel through face to face instruction. Instructors should have experience in special education as well as in teaching adults and providing professional development
