Overview
As part of the Framework Letter of Understanding, the parties agreed to allocate funds to support the recruitment and retention of trades qualified employees in the K-12 public education sector. The parties agreed to provide trades qualified employees with two premiums:
- Apprentice sponsor funding – all trades qualified employees will provide guidance and support to apprentice employees as directed by the employer
- Trades Adjustment – all trades qualified employees will receive an increase in wages
The SSEAC was provided with a fixed amount of funding to provide employees with each of the above adjustments. One of the SSSEAC’s first tasks was to determine the eligibility criteria for accessing the funds. Once the criteria had been set and there was an understanding of the exact numbers of employees that would qualify, the SSEAC was able to provide the following adjustments:
July 1, 2006 $0.60
July 1, 2007 $0.60
July 1, 2008 $0.60
July 1, 2009 $0.30
The above adjustments are now more commonly referred to as the ‘Trades Adjustments’ but are in fact both the Trades and Apprentice Sponsor Funding adjustments.
